Here are a few suggestions to help you prepare for and take the state exam.

Remain confident and calm when taking the exam. You can always retake it.

Read and understand the definitions found in the back of the Florida Real Estate Principles, Practice and Law textbook. Some of the words in the glossary are not covered in the textbook chapters, but may come up on the exam.

On a multiple choice question, you can generally discount two of the four answers, leaving two remaining answers which will both appear to be correct. Technically, one answer is “more” correct than the other. Often it will be the longer answer.

Be aware of the words “must”, “never”, or “always” on questions involving the Florida Real Estate Commission’s decision on how to reprimand an agent. Those statements are generally false.

There are many “trick questions” on the state exam. Re-read each question at least once, even if you think you know the answer. One word could change the meaning of the question.

If a question stumps you, skip it and go back to it. Sometimes you’ll find the answer in subsequent question and answer choices.

Should you fail the exam, be sure to request a review. This will allow you to see the questions that you missed along with their correct answers. These same questions will often come up on your subsequent retake exam, allowing you to answer correctly the second time.

One last piece of advice: Once you pass the state exam and become a licensed real estate agent, take the 45-hour post-licensing course while the information is still fresh in your memory, because a lot of the same material will be on your post-licensing exam.

If your Florida real estate license is set to expire at the end of the month and you have not completed your continuing education, you better get started or else you will not be able to renew your license. To maintain your real estate license, all licensees must comply with post-licensing or continuing education requirements and pay the necessary renewal fees. As your course provider, we are required to report your education completion to the department within 30-days of completion, or prior to the expiration date, whichever occurs first.

Unless you are a newly licensed sales associate or broker, you must complete the 14 Hour Continuing Education for Florida Real Estate Professionals Course.

If you are a newly licensed sales associate, you must take the 45 Hour Post-Licensing Education for Sales Associates before the end of your first license renewal period. Sales Associates who fail to complete the post-licensing education must re-qualify for licensure by meeting all current licensing criteria. This means starting from scratch!

For newly licensed broker and broker associates, you will be required to complete two (2) 30 hour courses: the 30 Hours Broker Post Investment Course and the 30 Hours Broker Post Management Course. Should you fail to complete post-licensing education, you may request to revert to sales associate status within 6 months following expiration, but you must take the 14 Hour Continuing Education for Florida Real Estate Professionals Course before your new sales associate license can be activated.

If you are a sales associate and your license is delinquent for more than 12 months, but less than 24 months, you may still take the 28 Hour Reactivation Education Course and pay all renewal fees before the end of your second renewal cycle. After 24 months of delinquency, your license will expire and be null and void.

If you are interested in applying to becoming a Florida real estate agent then you’ve come to the right place. Here are a few tips and tricks to aid you in the application process. Enroll In Class Today!

Take timing into consideration. Your authorization to take the Florida real estate exam will be good for 2 years from the time you apply. Your pre-license course will also be good for 2 years after successful completion. It’s preferable to take the state exam immediately after you take your course exam so that all of the information is fresh in your mind, so you may want to apply BEFORE you complete your school course. As long as there is no criminal history or deficiencies on your application, the application process should take 5 – 7 business days.

Before you apply, have your electronic fingerprinting done first. In this way it will speed up the process by submitting proof of fingerprinting along with your application. Have your fingerprints taken at a Pearson VUE Center. Reservations are necessary. Call 888-274-2020 (option #7) or go to the Pearson VUE Website (www.PearsonVue.com) and select “Digital Fingerprinting Services”.

Create an account on the DBPR’s Website. Before you apply, create a new profile on the DBPR (Department of Business and Professional Regulation) Website. Go to: www.MyFloridaLicense.com > Licensee Login > Create My Account. Here is the direct link: https://www.myfloridalicense.com/datamart/registration.do?from=loginPage

Apply for your license. There are two methods of applying for your sales associate or broker license. You may apply online at the DBPR Website or you can mail a paper application to the Department. We recommend applying online because it’s faster, you can pay with a credit card, and you don’t have to have anything notarized. Go to www.MyFloridaLicense.com > Apply For/Update Licenses > Real Estate and then click on the desired type of license.

Disclose criminal history on the application! This includes felony, misdemeanor (including disorderly conduct) and traffic offenses (but not parking, speeding, inspection, or traffic signal violations). The board will review each application on a case-by-case basis and will generally accept applicants with a slight “ding” in their history. However, non-disclosure is NOT tolerated. Prior to July 6, 2006, fingerprints were processed on a fingerprint card. The new electronic fingerprinting picks up on everything so disclose, disclose, disclose!

For more in-depth instruction on applying for your real estate license, view the Florida Real Estate Commission FAQ Document: http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/re/documents/FREC_FAQs.pdf
